  17.    The Multi-Seat II Promotion (# 2.706) gives customers the opportunity
  18.    to purchase a complete 3-seat HP workgroup solution at very
  19.    attractive cost-per-seat. In this promotion four complete bundles
  20.    are offered each of which includes an HP 9000 Model 715 workstation
  21.    and two HP 700/RX stations with sufficient memory and disk space to
  22.    make the bundle operational out of the box. The base configuration
  23.    can be expanded to accommodate customer requirements. The program is
  24.    designed for HP's end user customers as well as for HP Channel Partners.

  27. 2. Program Details
  28.    Multi-Seat II is a set of four structured solutions (SSPs). Each
  29.    solution combines one HP Apollo 9000 Series 700 Model 715 workstation
  30.    and two HP 700/RX X Stations in a usable, complete configuration.

  67.    Each of these four solutions is specially priced. Depending on the
  68.    type of customer the following special promotional discount applies:
  69.    End user             34 %
  70.    VAR/OEM partners     42 %
  71.    Two-Tier partners    47 %

  73.    The special pricing translates into very low cost-per-seat. The
  74.    following example is based on end-user pricing (34 % discount)
  75.    and base configurations.

  93.    2.2 Expandability

  95.    The base Multi-Seat II Configurations can be adapted to the
  96.    customers' requirements.
  97.    - HP-UX instant ignition is optional
  98.    - memory can be expanded to 48 MB for the 15" color and 19" grayscale
  99.      bundles (A2870A, A2872A)
  100.    - memory can be expanded to 64 MB for the 17" color and 19" color
  101.      bundles (A2871A as of April 1, 1993, A2873A now)
  102.    - disk capacity can be increased to 2 GB for all bundles
  103.    - support options are available

  105.    ALL OF THE ABOVE QUALIFIES for the same attractive promotional
  106.    discount !!

  108.    Please note:  - Lan cables, external transceivers and HP-UX media
  109.                    are not included as part of the promotion. If
  110.                    required these products must be ordered separately.
  111.                    All system solutions are delivered with PC-style
  112.                    keyboards. Customers requiring HP-HIL keyboards will
  113.                    need to order the A1099C HP-HIL localization kit
  114.                    separately (ie. without promotional discount).

  120.    All system solutions are orderable today and are shipping now. The
  121.    promotion runs until June 30, 1993.

  127.    The multi-Seat II program provides customers with usable, fully
  128.    configured 3-seat workgroup solutions at very competitive prices.
  129.    Highlight three main customer benefits:

  132.      . prices starting at $ 3,945 per user mean that there is no risk
  133.        in trying an HP workgroup solution
  134.      . a Multi-Seat II solution lets users share resources like CPU,
  135.        disk capacity and backup storage.

  138.      . efficient software licensing
  139.      . system administration, data backups, hardware upgrades and
  140.        software updates are performed on the workstation only resulting
  141.        in time savings and reduced cost

  153. 4. Competition
  154.  
  155.    You will find the Multi-Seat II program especially useful when
  156.    competing with entry level solutions from both SUN and IBM.
  157.  
  158.    SUN:
  159.    A 15" SPARCclassic retails for $ 4,295 ($ 3,995 by the dozen)
  160.    including the system with 16 MB memory, 207 MB disk and 15 "
  161.    monitor. A $ 3,945 Multi-Seat II 15" color workgroup solution
  162.    beats the SPARCclassic not only on price, but have over twice
  163.    the floating point performance (HP 715/33 45.0 SPECfp92,
  164.    SUN SPARCclassic 21.0 SPECfp92).

  166.    Good to know:
  167.    - The SPARCclassic comes with a limited version of the operating
  168.      system. If you want to network a SPARCclassic you need the full
  169.      OS which adds $ 795.
  170.    - To load the OS, you'll need a CD ROM drive, that's another $ 600.
  171.    - With a 207 MB disk, you are out of disk space before even loading
  172.      your application (160 MB for OS, 32MB for swap space).
  173.    - For performance reasons, users will quickly discover they need more
  174.      than 16 MB.
  175.    In summary, there are substantial hidden cost in a SPARCclassic
  176.    solution.

  179.    IBM:
  180.  
  181.    IBM's RS/6000 Model M20 is currently the lowest price color RISC
  182.    workstation in the marketplace. A diskless M20 with 17" color
  183.    monitor and 16MB memory is $ 3,995 ($ 2,995 by the dozen).
  184.    A $ 3,945 Multi-Seat II 15" color workgroup solution does not
  185.    necessarily beat the M20 on entry level price. However, if you
  186.    compare usable solutions, the price gap between IBM's M20 and HP's
  187.    Multi-Seat II shrinks to insignificance. Again, HP's solution
  188.    offers almost twice the floating point performance (HP 715/33
  189.    45.0 SPECfp92, IBM M20 26.7 SPECfp92).

  191.    Good to know:
  192.    - the M20 workstation is an integrated CPU/monitor system, ie. the
  193.      CPU is embedded in the 17" color monitor. The implication is, that
  194.      there are no other monitor sizes available, and that this system
  195.      cannot be upgraded to a more powerful RS/6000.
  196.    - For $ 2,400 you can add a 400 MB disk, and for $ 325 a floppy
  197.      disk drive. Looking at a 3 user configuration that increases the
  198.      cost-per-seat to $ 4,895 ($ 3,895 by the dozen).
  199.    - The M20 is a 2D system only. If your application requires 3D
  200.      capabilities you need to add $ 2,895 per user! HP's 715/33 has
  201.      2D and 3D capabilities standard.
  202.    - IBM's M20 includes only a 3 month warrranty, HP's solution offers
  203.      a full year warranty.
  204.    In summary, IBM is very aggressively marketing their M20 low end
  205.    solution, however the final price of the solution will be higher
  206.    than you expect.

  213.    purposes you can access them electronically. To receive all
  214.    four SSP menus please send an HPDesk message to SSP Hotline,
  215.    subject "WSGSSP". If you are interested in one particular SSP
  216.    bundle only use the bundle's SSP number as a subject (eg. A2870A
  217.    for the 15" Color Bundle).

  335.    Q:  Can HP Channel Partners participate in the Multi-Seat II program?
  336.    A:  Yes, the program is designed for all channels. End user qualify
  337.        for a 34% discount, VARS/OEMs for a 42% discount and CWRS and
  338.        2-tier Channel Partners for a 47% discount.

  340.    Q:  Can I use my purchase agreement discount on top of the special
  341.        discount?
  342.    A:  No. No additional discounts or promotions can be applied.

  344.    Q:  Can the purchase of these system solutions be applied to meet
  345.        purchase agreement commitments?
  346.    A:  Yes. With this promotion your purchase agreement discount is
  347.        set to 0 % per override to ensure that any Multi-seat II
  348.        purchase counts towards your fulfillment of purchase agreement
  349.        commitments.

  351.    Q:  What if I need a higher discount?
  352.    A:  The Multi-Seat II discounts are set and cannot be changed.
  353.        However, since these configurations consist of standard HP
  354.        products, you cna order all of the components separately and
